β οΈ Spoiler Warning: This article reveals hidden locations and secret mechanics. If you prefer discovering things on your own first, bookmark this page and come back when you feel stuck!
1. The Bamboo Alcove β World 1, Stage 2
In the second stage of World 1, there is a dense bamboo thicket roughly two-thirds of the way through the level. Most players run straight past it, but if you slash the three rightmost bamboo stalks in quick succession, a gap opens revealing a small alcove with a full health orb and a score multiplier star. The alcove closes after ten seconds, so grab both items quickly before continuing.
2. The Waterfall Shortcut β World 2, Stage 1
The first stage of World 2 features a tall waterfall on the left side of the map that looks purely decorative. Walk directly into the waterfall's spray and hold the left arrow key for two full seconds. The curtain of water will part, revealing a tunnel that bypasses the entire middle section of the stage and deposits you near the boss gate. This is the fastest known route through World 2-1.
3. The Upside-Down Room β World 2, Stage 3
On the ceiling of the third stage in World 2 there is a section with flipped gravity spikes pointing downward. Use a wall-kick off the right boundary to reach the topmost platform, then perform a downward slash on the cracked ceiling tile. You will fall up into a mirrored bonus room filled with five coin clusters worth 500 points each β the highest single-room score in the entire game.
4. The Ninja Dojo Secret Panel β World 3, Stage 1
World 3 is set inside an ancient dojo. In the first stage, count seven wooden pillars from the entrance. The seventh pillar has a barely-visible crack running diagonally. Strike it with a charged attack (hold attack button for 1.5 seconds) to smash it open. Inside you will find the Shuriken Pouch upgrade, which permanently increases your shuriken capacity from three to six for the rest of the run.
π‘ Pro Tip: The Shuriken Pouch from Secret #4 is arguably the most impactful hidden item in the entire game. Prioritise finding it on every playthrough.
5. The Sky Bridge β World 3, Stage 2
Near the midpoint of World 3-2, jump onto the tallest stone column and look up. There are invisible platform tiles (they shimmer very faintly) that extend to the right. Jump onto them and follow the invisible bridge to reach a floating island with the Cloud Sandals power-up, which grants a 20% movement speed boost for two full stages.
6. The Lava Cavern Cache β World 4, Stage 1
World 4 introduces lava floors. In stage one, there is a section where three lava jets fire in sequence. Wait for the pattern: left jet fires, middle jet fires, right jet fires. On the third repetition, a platform momentarily rises from the lava between the first and second jets. Land on it immediately and it will carry you downward into a sub-cavern containing two extra lives β the only place in the game where you can find two lives together in one spot.
7. The Frozen Chest β World 4, Stage 3
A chest encased in ice sits behind a wall in World 4-3. You cannot break it with standard attacks. Instead, lure a fire-breathing enemy close to the ice wall by positioning yourself just on the other side. When the enemy breathes fire, the ice melts and the chest becomes accessible. It contains the Dragon Blade upgrade, which coats your sword in fire damage for the remainder of World 4.
8. The Mirror Shrine β World 5, Stage 2
In the fifth world's second stage, there is a shrine room with a large mirror on the back wall. Stand directly in front of it and perform the full combo (attack, attack, jump-attack) without moving. Your reflection in the mirror will glow gold. Press down to enter the mirror dimension β a special bonus stage where all enemies drop double coins for sixty seconds. Completing it also reveals a secret exit that skips stage three entirely.
9. The Bell Tower Passage β World 5, Stage 4
At the very top of the bell tower in World 5-4, there is a giant bell. Strike it five times in rapid succession. On the fifth strike, the floor beneath the bell drops away to reveal a ladder leading to the Pre-Boss Armory β a hidden room with full health restoration, maximum shuriken refill and a temporary invincibility scroll that lasts for the opening thirty seconds of the World 5 boss fight.
10. The True Ending Room β World 6, Final Stage
After defeating the final boss, most players see the standard ending. But if you collected all five hidden Ninja Scrolls scattered across Worlds 1 through 5 (one scroll per world, each located inside the secret rooms described above), a new door appears in the final boss arena. Entering it triggers an extended ending cutscene, reveals the true identity of the shadow clan leader and unlocks the New Game Plus mode with remixed enemy placements and an extra difficulty layer.
